Mrs. Angela Sere-Ejembi (PhD) is the 2008 – 2010 National Treasurer of the Nigerian Statistical Association (NSA). She has approximately a 20-year post doctorate degree experience in the field of economics statistics.
In 1984, Angela Sere-Ejembi earned her Masters degree in economic statistics from the prestigious Higher Institute of Economics, Sofia, Bulgaria as she turned 21 years of age, winning the Georgi Dimitrov Award for excellent performance; and consequent scholarship for a doctorate education. After a spell in marketing research at A.J. Seward, a Division of Unilever, in 1991, she joined the services of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Research and Statistics Department, as an Economist. She served meritoriously in Statistical Surveys Office and Real Sector Statistics Unit, and has performed administrative duties. She has, additionally, being a resource person in in-house and external training programs and workshops. In 2008, she was redeployed to the Statistics Department of the CBN as one of the pioneer staff of the newly-created Statistics Department. As an Assistant Director, currently, she heads the Money and Banking Statistics Office.
On occasions, Angela Sere-Ejembi has been called to represent her employers in meetings of Governing Councils and Boards of government institutions, parastatals and non-governmental organizations. Prominent among these are the Center for Management Development (CMD), Nigerian Institute of Socio-economic Research (NISER), Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) and the Financial Institutions Training Centre (FITC). She has, in addition, participated in collaborative studies with both national and international organizations, namely, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), African Economic Research Consortium (AERC), UNESCO, NISER and the Academia.
A seasoned professional, Dr. Angela Sere-Ejembi serves as a member of the Review Committee of a CBN publication, the Central Bank of Nigeria Economic and Financial Review. Both individually and in collaboration with other professionals, she has written, covering a wide subject area in economics and statistics. Some of her most recent areas of research are in the unsecured money market, microfinance, banking sector reforms, and inflation trends. Her support for the NSA can be gleaned from the fact that, for virtually ten consecutive years, she has presented papers on thematic issues at the annual conferences. She also participated in communiqué drafting committees, some of which she chaired; served as discussant and chaired sessions. She has served as a panelist in other professional symposia, seminars and workshops and is a valued member of other professional bodies, including the Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM) and the Nigerian Economic Society (NES), where she is a life member. In the latter, she was the Internal Auditor during the 2005 – 2007 Executive Council and is currently the General Secretary of the 2007 – 2009 Council.
To relax, Angela Sere-Ejembi listens to jazz, light and contemporary classical music. Born on Tuesday, July 09, 1963, she is a Catholic, married to amiable Dr. Oche Martin Ejembi, a gynecologist of repute, who runs a private hospital in the prestigious Magodo GRA suburbs of Lagos. God blessed them with a son and daughter. |
